I'm fascinated to see your analysis of how the tone varies between the two and your feeling that Frears' film is the more serious of the two, with more reference to the pressures leading to the revolution. Have you also seen his 'Cheri'? I was a bit disappointed with that because I suppose I was expecting something as powerful as 'Dangerous Liaisons' and it isn't really, but it has its moments and Michelle Pfeiffer gives another fine performance.
